A court in Chittagong sent three senior officials of Mercantile Bank Ltd to jail for misappropriating Tk 75.75 crore after violating all the banking rules and regulations.
The court of Additional Chief Metropolitan Magistrate Shahdat Hossain sent them to jail after they surrendered before his court. The accused persons are former executive vice-president Nondo Dulal Bhattyacharia of Agrabad Branch, First Assistant Vice President Mezbahuddin Ahmed of Sheikh Mujib Road Branch and Assistant Vice President and Credit -In -Charge Bijoy Kumar Dutto of Agrabad Commercial Area Branch. Earlier, they took six weeks bail from the high court.
The prosecution story is in brief that the alleged persons were misappropriated Tk 75.75 crore by giving loan against a piece of lease land of Messer’s Sunmar Hotel Limited in Agrabad Commercial area after violating all the banking rules and regulations and siphoned the money off foreign countries.
Earlier, Jalal Uddin Ahmed, Deputy Director of Anti- Corruption Commission, filed a case with Doublemooring thana against five persons, including three bankers on February 23 last.
