UNB, Dhaka :
In separate incidents, three Bangladeshi workers have been killed in Malaysian.
Two Bangladeshi construction workers were buried alive in an incident at a factory construction site in Kampung Banir, Temoh, near Tapah town in Malaysia on Thursday.
The victims were identified as M Abu Talib, 30, and Iqbal Hossain, 32. They hailed from Dhaka.
Tapah Fire and Rescue Department chief A Ravi said the two workers were
working in a pit at the site when soil tumbled down on them at about 4:30pm on Thursday, reports Malaysian newspaper The Star online on Friday. “We received a call and rushed to the scene to conduct the search and rescue operation. “The first body was found under 3m soil an hour after the incident at about 5:30pm,” he said. The second body was found about 9m under tons of soil at about 6:40pm, he said, adding that firemen had to use excavators to recover the bodies. Ravi said initial investigations revealed that the ground in the pit sank, causing the cave-in.
Tapah OCPD Supt Som Sak Din Keliaw said the workers were conducting soil tests at the site prior to the incident.
The bodies had been sent to the Tapah Hospital for post-mortem. In another incident on Friday, another Bangladeshi worker was killed at the Mass Rapid Transit (MRT) construction site at Portal Semantan, near Bukit Semantan, Kuala Lumpur. Mass Rapid Transit Corporation Sdn Bhd (MRT Corp) director (Strategic Communication and Public Relations), Amir Mahmood Razak, said in the accident occurred at 1:20 pm, three workers, all Bangladeshis, were installing steel rods for the rebar cage when the cable snapped, according to Malaysian state news agency Bernama. The accident left another worker injured.
“The steel rods fell on the workers concerned and one of them, Rijaul Abdul Goni, 40, died at the scene.”
“His colleague, Shanaullah, 37, was injured and sent to Kuala Lumpur Hospital (KLH), while the other, Rozul Karim, escaped injury,” he said in a statement.
