Police arrested three people in connection with the killing of a Buddhist monk from different areas in Naikhongchari upazila on Saturday night.
Anisur Rahman, in-charge of Baisari Police camp, said police arrested Abdur Rahim, 25, Mohammad Zia, 20 and Hla Mong Chak, 22 at night. Besides, the postmortem of the monk, Mong Sui U Chak,75, was conducted at Sadar Hospital morgue and the body will be handed over to his family members on Sunday. Meanwhile, Sammilito Buddhist Bhikkhu Songho will form a human chain protesting the killing at Bandarban Press Club premises in the afternoon. Earlier, Mong Sui U Chak was found dead with his throat slashed inside a pagoda at Chakpara in Naikhongchari upazila early Saturday.
Quoting daughter-in-law of the victim, Manu Ching Chak, police said monk Mong used to live at the pagoda alone. Police suspect that miscreants broke into the temple some time at midnight and killed the monk by slitting his throat.
