Three persons were arrested by police from village Baraipara within Baraipara Union under Sadar Upazila in Bagerhat district on Wednesday night on the charge of attempt to murder freedom fighter Mallik Aabu Bakr at village Khardar in Bagerhat Pourashava after chopping him with sharp knives.
The arrestees are Akram Shaikh (35), son of one Abdur Rashid Shaikh, Jahangir Shaikh (48), son of one late Ansar Shaikh and Ukil Shaikh (35), son of one late Mahabbat Shaikh. They all hail from Baraipara village under Sadar Upazila. It was disclosed to the newsmen by Mahatab Uddin, Officer-in-charge of Bagerhat Sadar Model PS in a news briefing held on Thursday his office room. On the following day they were produced before Additional Chief Judicial Magistrate of Bagerhat. The learned Magistrate issued an order to send them to jail hajat.
It is stated that in the early hours of last November 12 a gang of masked and armed miscreants raided the house of freedom fighter Mallik Abu Bakr, entered his bed room after braking open the grilles of windows, chopped him left and right with sharp knives in order to murdering him and fled away after fatally injured him. In this connection victim Abu Bakr registered a case as the plaintiff with Bagerhat Model PS on November 20 against 8/9 persons mentioning the name of one of them.
OC Mahatab Uddin further disclosed, acting on secret information police raided Baraipara bazar within Baraipara Union under Sadar Upazila and arrested Akram Shaikh from there on the charge of his involvement in the attempt murder the freedom fighter. He was brought to Bagerhat Model PS where he confessed his involvement in the incident in the face of interrogation. According to his statement, police arrested Jahangir and Ukil Shaikh from the same Baraipara village. They (3) disclosed to the police, there was enmity between freedom fighter Mallik Abu Bakr and his neighbour Zakaria Morol over land properties.
Zakaria hired them to murder Abu Bakar on the contract of Tk.20 thousand. According to the contract, they accompanied by Zakaria Morol and his brother-in-law (sister’s husband) Rafiq Paik raided the house of Abu Baakr in the early hours of November 12, inflicted severe cut injuries on his person in order to murder him and fled away. As a result, freedom fighter Abu Bakar was fatally injured. The O/C, also disclosed, Zakarika Morol and his brother-in-law Rafiq Paik are still absconding. Police are trying to arrest them.
