Locals beat three alleged robbers to death and detained five others in the city’s north Kattali area early yesterday. Of the dead, two were identified as Mohammad Sagar,30, and Mohammad
Rasel,22, while the rest could not be identified immediately, Sadip Das, officer-in-charge of Akbar Shah Police Station said.Police recovered one gun, one light gun, three big knives, one hockey stick and three rounds of bullet after the incident.
The five arrestees, mostly teen-aged were identified as Rubel, Alauddin, Monir, Rana and Mohammad Rubel.Police said locals who has been guarding the village for last couple of days in the wake of robbery incidents in the locality abruptly noticed a group of people gathering in Uttar Kattoli area around 3 am.On suspicion, the villagers chased them off and caught eight of them red handed while the rest disappeared.The agitating mob gave them a good beating leaving three of them dead on the spot.The bodies were sent to Chittagong Medical College Hospital morgue for autopsy.
