The Chief Metropolitan Magistrate (CMM) Court of Dhaka on Wednesday placed three suspected members of banned militant outfit ‘Ansarullah Bangla Team’ ABT on a three-day remand each in the cases filed in connection with the murder of blogger Avijit Roy and Ananta Bijoy.
Three suspected accused are Bangladesh-born UK national Tawhidul Islam, 58, Sadek Ali Mithu, 28, and Aminul Mollik, 35.
Magistrate Shahriar Mahmud Adnan of the Chief Metropolitan Magistrate (CMM) Court of Dhaka passed the order
after Investigation Officer (OC) of the case, Md Fazlur Rahman, produced them in the court on Wednesday seeking a 10-day remand for each of the accused to quiz them.
The court rejected a bail petition submitted on behalf of Tawhidul Islam. His counsel ALM Kamaluddin submitted the petition. However, there was no lawyer on behalf of other two accused in the court.
Advocate Kamaluddin told the court that his mentally inconsistent client Tawhid came to Bangladesh from the UK to see his ailing mother.
Some people introducing themselves as members of Detective Branch (DB) of police picked up Tawhid from his sister’s residence at Dhanmondi area on May 28. A case was filed with Dhanmondi Police Station in this connection, he added.

Meanwhile, Aminul Mollik said that he was picked up by DB men on May 21 and he was threatened that he would be put in ‘crossfire’ in case of his refusal to confess his involvement in the murder.
