Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) on Saturday rescued a boy who was abducted by a kidnapping gang when his parents were shopping at Gulshan Police Plaza Concord Friday night.
The victim Tausifur, 6, was taken from the plaza by alluring ‘some attractive things’ to collect ransom from his family.
Three alleged abductors have been arrested from the city in connection with the kidnapping. They are Rubel Rana, Shipon Sheikh and Md Sagor.
Shaikh Nazmul Alam, Deputy Commissioner of Detective Branch of Dhaka Metro Police said this at a at DMP Media Center press conference on Sunday.
“We rescued Tausifur and arrested three suspects seeing CCTV footage that their son was picked up by a stranger,” the police official said.
Earlier, the anxious parents looked for him everywhere in the shopping mall in vain on Friday night. They, however saw their son being picked up by a stranger in the mall’s CCTV footage and informed police around 9:30pm. About an hour later, a man called Tausifur’s father Momin Ahmed
and demanded Tk 10 lakh ransom, according to him.
The man who phoned Momin demanded money in 10-15 minutes and threatened him of “sevre consequences if the demand was ignored ,” he said.
The man told Momin to go near the Nabisco with the money. He changed the location twice before asking Momin to drop the bag of money from Bijoy Sarani-Tejgaon Link Road near the rail lines, he added.
When a man picked up the bag and tried to flee, detectives shot him in the leg and took him to Dhaka Medical College Hospital around 4:30am, the detective official said.
Hospital staff said that suspect Rubel, 25, was shot in the right leg. Rubel is the man, who was seen in the CCTV footage taking Tausifur, said Shahjahan, Additional Deputy Commissioner (north) of Detective Branch.
Another police team raided a flat at Kunipara and rescued Tausifur around 4:00am on Sunday and arrested two suspects from there, he said, adding that an officer was injured in the operation.
In a query, he urged parents to be vigilant with their children at shopping malls and other such areas, adding “If you (Parents) are not careful, abduction may take place.”
Meanwhile, Police rescued three RFL officials from an impassable area in Ramgarh upazila of Khagrachari on Saturday night after nine hours of their missing.
RFL central protection unit officers Alauddin, 34, Md Imran, 32, and Sabuj, 30, went to Anwar Sikder for due money at Banglabazar area around 11:00am, said RFL company three hill districts sells development manager Md Main Uddin.
Anwar took them to a impassable area with an auto-rickshaw where 10 to 15 unknown persons tied their hands and legs just after reaching there. They beat the three and demanded Tk 2 lakh as ransom. The family members gave them Tk 60,000, according to him.
