Rural Electrification Board (REB) has given electricity to 3.91 lakh families only in November across the country. At present total consumers of REB will be one crore 36 lakh.
The REB designed a plan to provide electricity to 30 lakh families in the 2015-16 fiscal year.
To implement the government’s commitment to bring cent percent population by 2021 under electricity coverage, REB has to give electricity to 60 lakh families more REB press release said.
For this, REB has to set up 1.30 lakh kilometers
electricity lines and 1107 sub-stations, said Major General Moin Uddin.
REB has 2.89 kilometers electricity lines under 77 samities from which 1.36 crore consumers in 453 upazilas are getting benefits of electricity across the country.
REB will provide 54 lakh pre-paid meters for the purpose of curbing system loss in single digit.
Talking with The New Nation, Chairman of REB Moin Uddin said, “We have been working to bring the entire population under power supply by 2021. For this purpose, we hurriedly approved new connections.
