2nd phase smart NID distribution from today

The second phase distribution of smart National Identity Card (NID) begins in the capital on Tuesday amid poor response of voters to collect their cards in the ongoing first phase.
During the second phase, the Election Commission (EC) will distribute smart NID cards in five wards under Dhaka South City Corporation (DSCC), two wards under Dhaka North City Corporation (DNCC), and the Cantonment Board. According to the EC’s plan, the card distribution will continue at Muslim Modern Academy among the residents of Cantonment Board area from October 25 to 30.
In the DSCC, the people of ward No-27 will get their NID cards from October 28 to November 5, while that of Ward No-28 from November 7 to 15, Ward No-26 from November 19 to 30, Ward No-32 from November 18 to 26, and Ward No-33 from November 1 to 15. The smart card will be provided at Azimpur Govt. Girls School and College for the Ward No-26, Boxibazar Government Primary School for Ward
No-27 and Sirajuddin Govt Primary School for Ward No-28 under Lalbagh thana, Anandamoyi Girls High School for Ward No-32 and Mazed Sarder Community Centre for ward No-33 under Kotwali thana.
In the DNCC, the cards will be distributed at Abdul Hamid Darji Govt Primary School for the ward No-20 under Gulshan thana from November 1 to 19, while at Banani Bidyaniketan School and College for the ward No-19 under Gulshan thana from November 22 to December 11. EC officials said only 50 percent voters are collecting their machine-readable NID cards in the first phase distribution which is set to end on Wednesday next. On October 2 last, Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina inaugurated the distribution of the much-awaited NID cards among the country’s citizens, replacing the existing laminated ones.
The EC on October 3 began distribution of the cards in Ramna and Uttara areas in the capital and at Dashiarchhara in Kurigram. In Dhaka city, the first phase card distribution coverers DSCC Ward No-19, 20 and 21 and DNCC Ward No-1.
Voters can know about the date and place of their smart card distribution through mobile SMS. One needs to text- scnid17-digit national ID> — to 105 to know about his or her date and place. The voters having 13-digit NID requires to add the year of birth and those who did not get laminated NID card need to text scf serial number of voter registration slipd yyyy-mm-dd to 105.
Following the distribution in the capital and Phulbari of Kurigram, the Commission will distribute the cards in nine other city corporations and subsequently all other areas of the country.
The card distribution among 90 million people across the country will end in phases by December 2017.
This smart card has multipurpose uses in availing of 25 types of services like TIN number, driving licence, passport, opening bank accounts, marriage registration and admission to educational institutions.
