CUTA election on April 26: 2nd phase of early voting held

The teachers of Chittagong University has casted their votes in the second phase of early voting yesterday for electing the executive body of Chittagong University Teachers’ Association (CUTA) for 1016-17 session.
The final election will be held on Tuesday (April 26), where a total of 22 aspirants are going to vie for 11 executive posts including president, vice-president and general secretary. The first phase of early voting was held on April 19, where a total of 82 teachers casted their votes.
Awami League-backed progressive teachers under the yellow panel and pro-BNP and Jamaat-e-Islami teachers under the white panel will contest the election. A total of A total of 862 faculty members of the university will cast their votes in the election which will be held at the BBA faculty from 9:00am to 1:30pm.
Dr AFM Awrengazeb of Management department from Yellow panel and Prof Mujaffar Ahmed Chowdhury from White panel are contesting for the president post while Prof Sukanta Bhattacharga from pro-Awami League panle and associate Prof Dr Atiur Rahman from BNP-Zamat panel for general secretary post.
Apart from, Prof Khaled Misbahuzzaman of Forestry and Environmental Science, Prof Alak Paul of Geography department and assistant prof Mohammad Mahsin from Yellow panel are contesting for Vice-president, treasurer and joint secretary post eventually where Prof Mohammad Jahedur Rahman Chowdhury of Marine Science and Fisheries department, assistant prof Mohammad Jakaria of journalism department are contesting for the above the posts.
Chief election commissioner Prof Dr MA Gafur told this correspondent that the phase of early voting held with peaceful manner hoping the final phase of voting will be held peacefully.
