A week-long ‘strict lockdown’ is underway to tackle the Covid-19 outbreak. On the second day of the strict lockdown, like the first day, the law enforcers imposed restrictions on the movement of people and vehicles. However, on the second day of the lockdown, the traffic in the capital increased.
Such scenes were seen in Mirpur, Gabtoli, Shyamoli, Asadgate, Farmgate, Karwan Bazar and Shahbagh areas in the capital.
Talking to the people, it was learned that the “emergency services offices including banks did not arrange their own transport”. That’s why they have to go to work by microbus or private car. For this, microbuses or private cars are “abusing stickers”.
Meanwhile, rickshaws were seen standing at the corners of the road, but not enough. Due to this, many people have been seen standing on the road. Many rickshaw pullers are taking advantage of this opportunity by increasing the fare twice.
Traffic “congestions” have also been seen at many police checkpoints. As a result, the employees engaged in emergency services are not able to reach the workplace at the specified time.
“The traffic was heavier today than the first day of the lockdown. With ‘Movement Pass’, many people are going out to do “personal work rather than urgent work”, said SI Iqbal Mahmud, in-charge of Gabtoli checkpost. “Lawsuits are being filed against people who go out for personal work.”
People who came out with cars were showing “movement passes”, as a result, their movement cannot be hindered, said SI Jahangir Alam, in charge of Farmgate checkpost.
It is to be mentioned that the government announced this year’s first lockdown from April 5 to April 11. Seeing the apathy among the people in that seven-day lockdown, the government declared a “strict lockdown” in the second phase from 6:00 am on April 14 to midnight on April 21. The second day of that strict lockdown is underway.
