The horrific Churihatta tragedy was observed on Saturday. On this day in 2019, the whole country was shocked by the terrible fire that broke out at Churihatta in the capital’s Chawkbazar, claiming the lives of 71 people.
With the incident, the shadow of mourning spread all over the world.
After the fire, the lesions of the four-storey Haji Wahed Mansion in Churihatta have been repaired. However, the relatives of the victims and the survivors of the fire in that building are still living a horrible life. The wounds in their hearts have not dried up even today.
After the fire broke out in Haji Wahed Mansion, it spread to different floors. The lighter gas on the floor, the tube of various chemicals including perfume spilled and spread to the nearby building. Fire service, police and other law enforcement agencies carried out the operation for 14 hours. 67 died on the spot that day.
Meanwhile, the police are failed to identify the owners of the chemical godown (warehouse) responsible for the fire and the deaths of 71 people in two years. The investigation of the case is “still underway”.
According to the police, the traders did not use their real names and addresses when renting the Haji Wahed Mansion in Churihatta. The investigation is not yet completed as the “correct identity” of those was not found. As a result, it was not possible to submit the chargesheet of the case.
The families of the victims, on the other hand, are anxious about getting justice. Extreme frustration is prevailing among them.
