UNB, Dhaka :
Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina on Wednesday told parliament that Bangladesh is taking $ 2 billion Indian loan without any condition.
“There’s no condition here, there’s nothing here, we can spend this money on [any programme of] our choice,” she said.
The Prime Minister was responding to a supplementary question from Independent MP Rustam Ali Faraji (Pirojpur-3) during PM’s question-answer session.
During Indian Prime Minister Norendra Modi’s recent visit to Bangladesh both counties signed an MoU for extending a new line of credit of $ 2 billion.
Hasina said, “The Indian Prime Minister just announced that India will provide the loan and we’re now discussing in which sectors and projects we will use this money.”
She mentioned that Bangladesh is advancing economically. “While spending this money, we’ll consider further advancement of the country, attaining the desired GDP growth and fast poverty eradication.”
The Prime Minister also said the Vision 2021 and Vision 2041 will be in the mind while using this money. “So, there’s no condition, the way we want, the projects we want, the sectors we want, we can spend this money there,” she told the House.
Hasina said, her government never takes anything on condition. “We’re an independent country…we take money maintaining friendly relations keeping the provision of working independently.”
