A total of 285 new titles hit the month-long Amar Ekushey Book Fair till the fourth day (February 4), including 111 new titles that hit on Sunday.
The fourth day of the fair was opened from 3pm as it was a working day and scheduled to close at 9pm.
Poetry books are dominating the book fair as 71 such new titles hit the fair from the beginning and poetry books outnumbered novels, short-stories and essay books according to the list of books provided by Bangla Academy, including 26 on Sunday. A total of 19 novels have been released which is the second-highest genre on the fourth day, while 6 travelogues and 5 science fictions came out on Sunday. A discussion event on martyred Ranada Prashad Saha was held where Protiva Mutsuddi presented the keynote speech. Romanimohon Devnath, Hena Sultana, Azizur Rahman were the discussants at the event followed by a cultural function with Rafiqul Islam in the chair. On the other hand, the regular discussion on ‘A J M Takiullah: life and works’ will be held at 4pm while Ratan Sidiqqui and Shanta Maria will participate in the discussion. over the session while a cultural programme will be held on the main stage. There will be a seminar at the main stage of the fair at 4pm every day from February 2 to 28 followed by cultural events. As in recent years, the venue of the fair has been extended to nearby Suhrawardy Udyan with some changes. The authorities have allotted a total of 719 units – 136 at the Bangla Academy ground to 92 organizations and 583 at the Suhrawardy Udyan to 363 organizations.
Last year, the authorities allotted a total of 663 units – 114 at the Bangla Academy ground to 80 organisatons and 549 at Suhrawardy Udyan to 329 organisations.
