28 killed in road accidents

Staff Reporter :At least 28 people, including seven members of a single family were killed and 29 others injured in separate road accidents in Dhaka, Gopalganj, Chuadanga, Magura, Comilla, and Munshiganj districts on Saturday and Sunday.Our Gopalganj Correspondent reports: Six members of a family and another person were killed in a head-on collision between a microbus and a battery-run three wheeler Easy-bike on the Gopalganj-Kotalipara road in Sadar upazila on Saturday. The deceased were identified as Khokon Sikder, 45, his wife China Begum, 40, his mother Katebunnisa, 70, his son Shakib, 28, and two daughters Ety, 7, and Aniya, 16, from Teligati village in the upazila  and the Easy-bike driver’s name was Delwar.Officer-in-Charge (Investigation) of Sadar Police Station Selim Reza said that the accident took place around 10:00am at Shibpur, leaving six passengers of the three-wheeler dead on the spot and five others injured.Nosimon failed down into road side ditch. As a result 7 persons were killed and 4 persons were injured. The killed persons were Khokon Sikder (45), Katukunnessa (70), Chaina Begum (40), Anny (16), Chadni (8), Sakib Sikder (12) & easy bike driver Swapan Sarder (35). Police recovered the bodies and sent those to Sadar Hospital for autopsy.A case has been registered with Gopalganj Police Station. In Dhaka, five persons, including two women were killed and 25 others injured as two buses collided head-on on the Dhaka-Aricha highway at Kelia in Dhamrai upazila in the afternoon.Three of the deceased were identified as Abul Kalam Azad, 57, Sumaiya Khan, 17, hailing from Faridpur district, and Kotu Miah, a bus driver.Rezaul Karim, Officer in-charge, said the Dhaka-bound ‘Bikash Paribahan’ bus collided with the Faridpur-bound ‘Sara Paribahan’ bus in the area around 1:30pm, leaving five passengers dead on the spot and 25 others injured.The injured were admitted to different hospitals in Dhamrai and the capital. A CNG-run auto-rickshaw driver, Jamal, 25, was killed in another accident on the highway at Islampur of the upazila. In Chuadanga, a head-on collision between a truck and a human hauler left two persons dead on the Chuadanga-Jhenidah highway at Subdiya under Sadar upazila yesterday morning.The deceased are Shafi Uddin and Khairul Islam. Liakat Hossain, Officer-in-Charge of Chuadanga Sadar police station, said the accident took place in the morning. Shafiuddin died on the spot and Khairul Islam and his wife suffered injuries.The injured were taken to Chuadanga Sadar Hospital where doctors referred Khairul to Dhaka Medical College Hospital (DMCH) in the capital.In Magura, a man was crushed to death by a speeding bus at Magura bus stand of the district town around 10:00am. The deceased Ranjan Mondal, 60, was a resident of Naubhanga village in Mohammadpur upazila.Munshi Asaduzzaman, officer-in-charge of Magura Sadar police station, said the bus ran over Ranjan when he was crossing the road, leaving him dead on the spot.Police recovered the body and sent it to sadar Hospital morgue. In Comilla, an unidentified young man was crushed to death by bus on the Dhaka-Chittagong highway at Kotbari in Sadar upazila in the evening.Police said the Dhaka-bound ‘Ekushey Paribahan’ bus from Noakhali ran over the youth at 7:30pm when he walking by the road, leaving him dead on the spot.In Munshiganj, a passerby was crushed under the wheels of a bus at Chhanbari on the Dhaka-Mawa highway in Srinagar upazila. The deceased Sirajul Islam, 55, was a resident of Dakkhin Paiksa village in the upazila, according to police.
