A mobile court here on Monday morning jailed 28 fishermen and fined three others for violation of the on-going temporary ban on hilsha fishing from the Meghna river.
A joint team of the Fisheries Department, district administration and the coast guards conducted a drive in different areas of the Meghna river and arrested 31 fishermen along with 4 trawlers. The team also seized 50kg hilsha fish and 60 thousand metre current net from their possession.
Later, they were produced before a mobile court led by executive magistrate Mohammad Kamal Hossain which sentenced 28 fishermen to one year’s jail each and fined three other fishermen TK 5,000 each.
