UNB, Cox’s Bazar : Pirates kidnapped 28 fishermen along with their trawler from the Bay of Bengal in Maheshkhali upazila early Thursday. The abducted fishermen hail from Kutubdia upazila. Joinal Abedin, owner of the looted trawler, FB Joinal, said 30 fishermen were going into the Bay for catching fish with his trawler five days ago. He said a gang of bandits, numbering 20/25, swooped on the trawler at about 4:00am while the 30 fishermen were netting fish at Sonadia of the upazila. Two fishermen named– Shahabuddin Badsha and Biman Ananda Das– jumped off the trawler and managed to swim ashore. Later, the duo informed Joinal Abedin of the kidnap incident over phone in the morning. The gangsters fled into the deep sea taking 28 fishermen along with the trawler. The trawler owner said he was on way to Maheshkhali to seek police help in this regard.
