The prestigious 27th Kolkata International Film Festival (KIFF) started
in Kolkata on Monday. Satyajit Ray’s iconic movie Aranyer Din Ratri was screened at the inaugural ceremony.
West Bengal CM Mamata Banerjee and Bollywood actor Shatrughan Sinha inaugurated the festival at Kazi Nazrul Islam Mancha in New Town on April 25 evening. A total of 163 films, including 47 from abroad, will be screened during the ongoing film festival at ten venues across the state from April 25 to May 1. These films will be screened at around 10 locations of the programme.
West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee called for investments from Bollywood to the Bangla film industry. Director Shoojit Sircar delivered the Satyajit Ray Memorial Lecture yesterday at Sisir Mancha. Cast and crew members of Satyajit Ra”s movie will have an open discussion on his 101st birth anniversary on May 1 at Rabindra Sadan at 3:00pm.
The festival will pay tribute to Indian filmmaker Chidananda Dasgupta, Hungarian film director Miklos Jancso, Dilip Kumar, Jean-Claude Carrière, Jean-Paul Belmondo and Abhishek Chatterjee as well.
Superstars Prasenjit Chatterjee, Deepak Adhikari and Parambrata Chatterjee were also present on the occasion.
