The high command of opposition Bangladesh Nationalist Party declared the 275-member full pledged committee of Chittagong City BNP yesterday without council even though the BNP leaders earlier confirmed it would be held.
Dr Shahadat Hossain and Abul Hashem Bakkar have become President and General Secretary respectively.
Apart from that, there are 30 vice presidents, 13 joint secretaries, three organizing secretaries, 18 assistant general secretaries, eight assistant organizing secretaries, 11 honorary members, 108 executive members and 15 advisors in the giant committee.
BNP Chief Begum Khaleda Zia approved the committee after submitted by the Chittagong City BNP leaders yesterday. BNP Central Vice Chairman Mohammed Shahajan and Organizing Secretary Mahabubur Rahman Shamim handed over the declaration paper of the committee to the new President and General Secretary on Tuesday. Sources said, BNP’s Chittagong City committee was declared by the central committee on August 6 last year. Additionally, Dr Shahadat Hossain was the incumbent general secretary of the last committee.
