Police operating drives in different regions of Barisal Division arrested 11 leaders and activists of Jamaat- e- Islami and sent them to jail on Tuesday.
Police sources said the drives against Jamaat leaders and activists were operated to prevent suspected lawlessness by them after announcement of verdict against JIB central leader and former minister Matiur Rahman Nizami accused for war crimes during liberation war.
Barisal City JIB issuing a press release alleged that police raided houses of different JIB leaders and activists including Barisal City Jamaat Amir and cautioned police to stop those harassment activities or to face strong protest.
Md. Shamsuddin, Barisal Metropolitan Police Commissioner, said police operating drives to maintain law and order and raiding houses of accused in criminal cases.
Delwar Hossain, Amir of ward-6 under Barisal city Corporation, Mizanur Rahman, Shahin Mia, Rafikul Islam and Milon Mridha, activists of JIB were arrested on Monday night from different areas of the city and sent to jail on Tuesday by court for alleged conspiracy to deteriorate the law and order in the city, acknowledged Shakhawat Hossain, Barisal Kotwali police station officer in charge.
Sajjad Hossain, Agoiljhara police station of Barisal, said they arrested Nazrul Islam, 31, upazila Amir of JIB on Monday night from Fullashri village of the upazila and court sent him to jail for alleged planning about sabotage on Tuesday.
Muladi police operating drives arrested JIB activists Md. Mamun, 35, Jasimuddin, 40, Md. Selim, 35, Moslemuddin Haoladar, 60, for their suspicious activities on early Tuesday and court sent them to jail Tuesday afternoon, said Muladi police station officer in charge.
Naresh Chandra Karmakar, Baufal police station officer in charge under Patuakhali said Md. Yunus Ali, Nowmala union JIB Amir, was arrested from Nowmala school area on Tuesday noon and court sent him to jail for suspicious activities.
Jhenidah Correspondent adds: Atleast 16 Jamaat-Shibir activists have been arrested from four upazila’s in Jhenidah on Tuesday early hours.
Jhenidah police super Altaf Hossain said, they are the accused of several cases. Police have arrested 8 from Harinakundu, 2 from Kotchandpur, 1 from Kaliganj and 5 from Jhenidah sadar upazila. In a special drive police have arrested them as they might have created anarchy as soon as the verdict of Motiar Rahman Nizami declared today, he added.
