The freedom fighters as well as the local people of Sailkupa in Jhenaidah and Hazipur in neighboring Magura district observe the historical “Kamanna 27 Shaheed Smriti Dibas” with due honour on November 26, while the Bangladesh Muktijoddha Sangsad Sailkaupa upazila unit on November 27 to show respect to the martyrs and four others sacrificed their lives.
Bangladesh Muktijoddha Sangsad Sailkupa Upazila unit have been observing the day at the spot, about 15 kilometre east from the upazila head quarters. The blood coats have raided the sun of the independence more and more reddish and glorious.
The martyrs are Momin, Kader, Sahidul, Soleman, Razzaque,Wahed, Riaz, Alamgir, Motleb, Ali Hossain, Sariful Islam, Amisur, Alimuzzaman, Tajul Islam, Maniruzzaman, Masim, Razzak-2, Kawser, Salek, Abdul Aziz, Akbar, Selim, Hosein, Rashed, Golzer, Adhir Kumar and Gour Chandra.
Bangladesh Muktijoddha Sangsad, Bogra Union Command in Sailkupa upazila had arranges the programme at Kamanna High School ground following 42 years of the day.
Local people and freedom fighters said, the Pakistan brutes had killed 27 freedom fighters and four others including a house wife Ranga Nessa in the early morning of November 27 when they were asleep. In the early hours of the day, when the sun was even not found in the east, the occupying forces had swooped on the peace loving innocent freedom fighters and attacked them.
According to them, about 42 freedom fighters, mostly from village Hazipur under the neighboring Magura district had taken shelters in the abandoned house of Madhab Chandra Bhoumik (now owned by a renowned social activists KB Zaman) in the evening of November 26 of 1971.
The house was a suitable place for the freedom fighters due to its location on the bank of Kumar River. Earlier the young freedom fighters had received training on arms and ammunitions operation in India.
A young man in the village said, he feels proud as he was born at village Kannana after 10 years of the liberty. Although the young men new generation could not watch the liberation movement, they leant from various sources that a number of ministers, state ministers and law makers from Jhenaidah and Magura had visited the spot several times, had assured of making the historical spot Kamanna as a tourist spot which could introduce Kamanna before whole nation as well as overseas countries. But the dream could not be realized in last 45 years, they said with sorrow.
Alamgir Hossain of Sailkupa and Abu Bakr of Sripur in Magura were the commanders of the team. Information about the stay of the freedom fighters was anyway sent to the Paakistani soldiers, as we as the Rajakars at Sailkupa, Jhenaidah and Magura camps by the spy faster.
About 300 Pakistani occupying forces including Rajakar, Albadr, so called peace committee men and Al Sams had swooped on the innocent freedom fighters in the early hours before the sunrise in the east.
The FFs were afraid and tried to flee away finding no other alternatives as they were not aware. Further, they were sleeping then. Most of them were caught by the occupying forces and killed brutally. They were shot and hacked in and around the house of Madhab Chandra Bhoumik.
Samena Begum, 85, who has been suffering from age old complications for last few years, said she was about 40 then. She said, a bullet hit young freedom fighter had requested her to give some water to drink.
