CU admission test: 26 students vying for one seat

Around 26 students will vie for one seat in the first-year honours admission test of Chittagong University under the academic session of 2017-18. The admission test will start from October 26 and continue till 29 October.
A total of 1,26,057 admission seekers have applied against 4924 seats under 4 units under 2017-18 academic session while the number of admission seekers of the last year was 2,44,779 against 4791 seats. Some 52 candidates took part in the examination against one seat in the last year.
 SM Akbar Hossain ,Deputy Register (academy) of CU, told the New Nation that some 43118 students have applied for 1,448 seats under ‘A’ unit (science faculty), 29313 for 1,554 seats under ‘B’ unit (arts faculty), 14304 for 752 seats under ‘C’ unit (business studies), 39322 for 1,170 seats under ‘D’ unit (combined) social science faculty.
As per schedule, ‘C’ unit admission test will be held on October 26, ‘D’ unit on October 27, ‘B’ unit on on October 28,and ‘A’ unit on October 29. The admission seekers have been suggested to visit website www.cu.ac.bd for detailed information.
Some 133 ,including quota 23, seats have been increased in this session for newly opened honours courses in Bangladesh Studies under arts faculty and Development Studies and Criminology and Police Science under Social Science faculty.
BCL infighting at CU: Two groups of Bangladesh Chhatra League Chittagong University Unit yesterday involved a clash on the issue of trivial incident.
The incident took place in front of the central Shaheed Minar premises at Chittagong University (CU) around 1pm . No one was injured in both groups but the panic spreaded at Campus.
The two groups are the followers of city Awami League secretary and City Mayor AJM Nasir Uddin.
The Sources said, Anwer Hossain, follower of Bipol ,was gossiping with his girl friend at
central Shaheed Minar premises. Some activists including Mahmud insulted his girl friend.At this time Anwar got excited and turned to Mahmud and slapped him. Then another group of Chhatra League members rushed to the campus with demestic weapons. At around 4pm, police recovered 17 radars from the Shahjalal Hall . However, no one was arrested at this time.
Muhammed Alamgir Tipu, president of suspended committee of BCL CU chapter , said, ” There was a misunderstanding among the junior activists . We have already resolved the issue.”
Belal Uddin Jahangir Officer in Charge ( OC) of Hathazari model Thana said hearing clash information police reached the spot and recovered 17 domestic weapons with red. No one was arrested at this time.The situation is now completely peaceful.
About the clash, University assistant Proctor Liton Mitra said, We have gone to the spot after hearing the news of the problem. Later searches were conducted. Now the situation is normal.
Mentioning that on Wednesday night at least five activists were injured in a clash between two rival groups of Bangladesh Chhatra League (BCL) Chittagong University (CU) unit over silly matter on at Suhrawardy hall in CU. The two groups are the followers of city Awami League president and former City Mayor ABM Mohiuddin Chowdhury .
