Members of Bangladesh Navy in a drive detained 26 more Indian fishermen at Fairway Buoy of the Bay of Bengal under Mongla upazila on Friday for trespassing into the Bangladesh water territory.
Sub-inspector of Mongla Police Station M Manjur Elahi said the Navy members detained the Indian fishermen while they were netting fish in the area on two trawlers – ‘FV Bashonti-1’ and ‘FV Banshonti-2’.
However, the detained fishermen claimed they
mistakenly entered the Bangladesh territory.
Bangladesh Navy has detained 130 Indian fishermen from the sea along with 10 fishing trawlers in eight drives in the Bay of Bengal from October 15 till on Friday.
Bangladesh Navy has already handed over 104 of the detained to Mongla Police Station.
Later, the 104 detained fishermen have been shown arrested in cases of illegal trespassing of the country’s marine territory and sent to Bagerhat jail by the order of district courts.
