Malaysian immigration department has detained 78 illegal immigrants including 26 Bangladeshi nationals in Malaysia’s Penang northwest state. A spokesperson of Penang Police told the media that the 12-hour long raid, known as ‘Ops Ikrar’ was conducted in different places of Penang state from Saturday night (Dec 16) to Sunday noon (Dec 17). A total of 78 people including a 3-year-old girl were detained. Of the detainees, there are also citizens of Indonesia, Myanmar and Nepal. Most of them are factory, hotel and housing workers. They were sent to Juru Immigration Detention Center for further investigation, he added.
