The demand of the sacrificial cattle for upcoming holy Eid ul-Azha is likely to be more than six lakh in Chittagong. The district livestock department and Chittagong district administration hoped that a total of 5.91 lakh cattle likely to be sacrificed at the upcoming holy Eid ul-Azha.
The authorities concerned are preparing the arrangement for temporary hats, treatments of cattle for upcoming Eid, sources said. Sources said, the district administration are going to arrange a total of 250 cattle markets for selling cattle for upcoming holy Eid ul Azha.
The number of approved cattle markets for selling cattle was 240 last year while there were several hundred illegal cattle markets in city and rural arrears in Chittagong. Along the 250 cattle markets, there also might be several hundred illegal small cattle markets this year, the locals said.
According to sources in district administration, the Chittagong dwellers sacrificed a total of 5.40 lakh last year. But, the administration hoped that this year the number of sacrificed cattle would be at least 10 percent more.
District livestock officer Reazul Haque said, the number of sacrificial cattle will be more than 5.91 lakh this year. “We hope that at least 10 percent will be increased in the current year.” He said 250 cattle markets for upcoming Eid would be arranged. The number of approved cattle markets for selling cattle was 240 last year.
“We have sent letter to the authorities concerned including the Chittagong Veterinary and Animal Science University for 80 physicians for the sacrificial cattle. We have to ensure the disease free cattle in the cattle markets of Chittagong,” he added.
Deputy Commissioner of Chittagong Mohammed Zillur Rahman Chowdhury already gave directives to the authorities concerned to ensure the arrangement of temporary cattle markets and good management of the markets.
