Police in a drive picked up 25 members of Islami Chhatra Shibir on charge of anti-government activities from Haque Tower in the city’s Panthapath area on Friday afternoon.
They also seized 16 computers from their possessions, police said.
Biplob Kumar Sarkar, Deputy Commissioner (Tejgaon Zone) of Dhaka Metropolitan Police, said, “A team of Sher-e-Bangla Nagar Police Station
conducted a drive in the tower at about 3:30pm and arrested them.”
A training centre was set up at the tower for online anti-government propaganda, the police official said.
They were also trying to create public opinion through the Internet against the trial of war criminals, the DC said.
“Considering the structure of the office, it is apparently a training centre of Chhatra Shibir, but we need to interrogate them to give a conclusive opinion,” he said.
They were being quizzed at Sher-e-Bangla Nagar Police Station till filing of the report at 9:00pm, he added.
