Law enforcers in their separate drivers arrested 25 robbers from the city’s Mohammadpur, Motijheel and Chawkbazar areas on Monday night.
Of them, Detective Branch of Dhaka Metropolitan Police arrested 13 bandits from Mohammadpur and Motijheel along with three pistols, two microbuses and equipment for committing robbery.
They are Abu Sayeed, Mitho Sikder, Mohammad Amin, Mizan Mollah alias Azad, Jahidul Islam alias Pinto, Bashir Shikder, Swapan Fakir, Arafat alias Apu, Abdul Qadir, Raju Hossain alias Bappy, Humayun Kabir, Raju Ahmed and Daud Hossain.
The Chawkbazar thana police arrested the rest 12 robbers along with two rice-laden trucks and 12,000 litres of pump oil.
Briefing reporters at the DMP Media Centre on Tuesday, deputy commissioner of Detective Branch (North) Nazmul Alam Sheikh said the bandits were arrested while taking preparation for committing robbery.
They have been involved in robbery and hijacking in Dhaka and its adjoining areas for a long time, he said.
Acting on a tip-off, a DB special team, led by assistant commissioner Mahmud Naser, conducted a raid on Bachhila Road of Mohammadpur embankment and arrested Abu Sayeed,  
Mitho Sikder, Amin, Mizan Mollah, Jahidul, Bashir Shikder, Swapan Fakir and Arafat at about 9:45pm.
During preliminary interrogation, the arrested robbers revealed that they were involved in the looting of Tk 72 lakh from Board Bazar of Gazipur in September last year. The money was being taken to NAR Sweeter for giving salary of the factory workers, the DC said.
Besides, they revealed that they were involved in the killing of six students in Amin Bazar, he added.
In another drive, the same team arrested Abdul Qadir, Raju, Humayun, Raju Ahmed and Daud Hossain from in front of Sonali Bank at 62 Dilkhusha around 10:45 pm.
During interrogation, the arrestees divulged that they used to hijack private cars or microbuses at gunpoint and then commit robbery, DC Nazmul Alam added.
