Some 25 persons of Sharankhola Upazila in Bagerhat district could not perform their hajj in the current year as they were cheated by their travel agent.
The travel agent collected all the necessary papers and cash Tk. 3.5 lakh from each but the owner of the concerned travel agency left the country for Saudi Arabia tactfully and secretly without informing them (who were willing to go to Makka) of anything.
The victims alleged that the Jamaat leader Abul Fazal Hossain and his younger brother Najmul Hasan of village Khontakata under Sharankhola Upazila are the owners of Propan Tours and Travels situated at Motijhil in Dhaka city have been doing the business of Hajj pilgrimage for long.
Every year they take people who are willing to perform hajj from the different places of the country and send them to Makka. But this year the owners of the travel agent collected all the necessary papers and a sum of Tk. 87.5 lakh from as many as 25 persons including women of their own locality in order to them to perform Hajj this year. But all of them were cheated by the travel agent who left the country for Saudid Arabia secretly without informing them of anything. Some of the cheated persons are Abdul Hye, Imdadul Haq Mohori, Saj Uddin, Kashem Khalifa, Nurul Islam Hawladar, Delwar Hossain, Abdul Gaffar Molla, Yusuf Ali Hawladar, Latifa Begum and Shafia Begum.
Delwar Hossain of village Khontakata under Sharankhola Upazila disclosed to the newsmen, I was asked by the Hajj agency to go to Dhaka to avail the flight for Saudi Arabia. Accordingly I went to Dhaka and found that no body had deposited the requisite money in the bank on be half of mine. So, I returned home from Dhaka on September 21.
Freedom fighters Emdadul Haq and Nurul Islam Talukdar hail from Panchrastar Mor of the Upazila told the newsmen, they could not perform hajj in the current year due to the sheer negligence of the travel agent.
Some of them who failed to perform Hajj this year told the newsmen, Abul Fazal Hossain, the owner of the travel agency earned a lot of money through cheating the people in this way and became so powerful in the localities that no body dare speaks against him.
