Participants at a discussion on Friday demanded twenty-five percent budget allocations in national budget for education sector to control commercialisation and end of discrimination of the sector.
Samajtantrik Chhatra Front Barisal unit arranged the programme at Kirtankhola Auditorium in the city presided over by Manisha Chakraborty, president of SCF Barisal unit.
Representatives from different professional organizations and elites participated and Mithun Chakrabarti placed the key note paper in the program.
Among others Jiban Krishna Dey, Apurba Goutam, Murad Ahmed, Manabendra Botobayal, Mukul Das, Prof. Dulal Majumdar, participated in the discussion.
The speakers of the programme said at least 25 percent of the national budget must be allotted for education sector as education is the backbone of the nation and without development of this sector, development of other sectors never be sustainable. The speakers opined that by allocating sufficient budget for the education sector, nation could achieve a strong backbone to fight against all types of irregularities, corruption, immoral and criminal activities.
They said teaching always a noble profession and teachers could not perform their duties sincerely without getting proper prestige, social status, salaries and service security.
The speakers stressed on interactive relationship between teachers, students and guardians to attribute good citizenship among the children and youths for performing duties of building nation and strengthen back bone of the nation.
The speakers also called to end discriminations in public and private education sectors and criticized too much politicisation for which teachers often cannot perform their teaching duty without obstructions.
After liberation number of nationalized schools increased up to 19 in Barisal division and 10 of those institutions nationalised in pre-liberation period and 12 of those situated in only two-districts, while the Barisal divisional head quarter has only two, they said.
Speakers said Bhola has six and Pirojpur has six public schools in the district even up to upazila level, creating discriminations against balanced regional development policies.
Education would never be standardized till the discriminations between government and non-government educational institutions and different regions would not be removed and commercialisation of that sector would not be ended, they opined.
