Twenty five fishermen were kidnapped by robbers at Jongra in Morapashu River under Sundarbans East Zone in Mongla upazila on Thursday night. Staff Officer of operation Department of Coast Guard Mongla West Zone
Lieutenant Mohammad Farid Khan said a group of robbers, numbering 10-12 swooped on a fishing trawler in the river at night.
The robbers beat up the fishermen and looted valuables, including nets and fish, from the trawlers, he said quoting local fishermen.
The robbers then took away 25 fishermen with the trawler in the deep forest and demanded Tk 50,000 as ransom for their release. Mohammad Farid Khan said coastguard members started drive to rescue the kidnapped fishermen.
