Jhenaidah police arrested 239 persons from different areas of the district between Thursday evening and Friday morning. They were arrested in special police drives, police said.
Additional Superintendent of Police in Jhenaidah Azbahar Ali Shaikh said, as a part of the country wise driver against the militants, terrorists and anti- social activists, the police arrested 84 from Jhenaidah Sadar, 12 from Harinakundu, 110 from Sailkupa, 10 from Kaliganj, 16 from Moheshpur and seven from Kotchandpur upazilas. The arrested were wanted in specific cases with the respective police stations.
Another report adds: Police in Harinakundu arrested an wanted person for his alleged involvement in 7 cases wit the police station. The arrested was identified as Rentu Mandal, 37, alias Pintu, son of Lutfar Rahman of Raghunathpur village of the upazila.
Harinakundu police station officer in charge SM Shawkat Hossain said, they arrested Rentu acting on a tip off. He was wanted in seven cases including killing, toll collection and snatching.
