Staff Reporter :A total of 2,245 people were killed and 6,031 received injuries in 2,082 road accidents across the country in the last seven months. Of the dead, there were 301 women and 311 children, said a survey report prepared by the national committee to protect shipping, road and railways [NCPSRR].According to the report, the accidents took place in between January 1 and July 31 this year. It was prepared based on news items published in 12 dailies, six online news portals and 12 other regional newspapers.The NCPSRR identified seven vital reasons for the accidents during the survey. These are: Reckless driving, employing unskilled driver without license, overloading and overtaking tendency violating laws, long-time driving without interval, not following traffic rules and regulation, lack of implementation of law to stop plying of unfit vehicles, and finally, risky turning and dilapidated roads.It was mentioned in the report that, 295 accidents occurred in the month of January where 340 people, including 42 women and 57 children, died. In February, 356 persons were killed and 1,120 others were injured in 349 road crashes. Of the dead, there were 49 woman and 53 children.In 296 accidents in the month of March, a total of 309 persons, including 41 women and 52 children, were killed. About 626 others received injuries during the aforesaid period.A number of 309 persons died and 705 others were injured in 296 accidents in the month of April. Of the dead, there were 52 women and 38 children. Besides, 292 died and 582 were injured in 315 accidents in the month of May. Of the expired, there were 33 women and 35 children. In 275 accidents that occurred in the month of June, the number of dead was 335 and injured was 819. Of the dead, the number of women was 44 and children 28. Apart from it, 304 persons, including 40 women and 49 children, were killed in 256 accidents in July. About 1237 were injured at the same time.
