Bangladesh Navy has detained 23 Indian fishermen for intruding into the maritime boundary of Bangladesh.
Two fishing trawlers– MV Swarna Dwip and Amrichha– were also seized, reports media.
The fishermen from Kolkata’s 24 Pargana and Bijoynagar area were handed over to the Mongla Police around 4:00pm on Friday.
A case was also filed against the detained fishermen.
Earlier, Bangladesh Navy patrol team picked up 15 others fishermen for intruding into Bangladesh territory on Monday
A Bagerhat court sent 15 Indian fishermen to jail on charges of illegal fishing in Bangladesh maritime territory.
They are all from various villages under Kakdwip police station in West Bengal’s South 24 Parganas district.
Iqbal Bahar Chowdhury, Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Mongla Police Station said that on a routine patrol, the BNS Nishan seized fishing trawler Ma Laxmi from the Fair Buoy area in the Bay of Bengal on Monday evening.
The 15 Indian fishermen were caught fishing 90 nautical miles from the Mongla Port, within Bangladesh territorial waters. Abul Manzur, Petty Officer of Bangladesh Navy, filed a case against the Indian fishermen.
