225 more buses to run on 3 new routes in city

Dhaka South City Corporation Mayor Sheikh Fazle Noor Taposh on Tuesday announced plans to run 225 new buses on three new routes in Dhaka.
However, he did not mention any timeline of operating the buses.
Taposh, also chairman of Bus Route Rationalisation Committee, came up with the decision in the 22nd meeting of the committee at Nagar Bhaban on Tuesday.
Among the three routes, 50 buses will run on 22 number routes — Ghatarchar to Sultana Kamal Bridge via Basila, Mohammadpur Town Hall, Farmgate, Karwan Bazar, and Shahbagh.
Additionally, 100 buses will run 23 number route — Basila to Kanchpur via Mohammadpur Shia Mosque, Shyamoli and Kamalapur, and 75 buses will run on 26 number route — Ghatarchar to Kadamtali via Plashi crossing and Postagola.
The Mayor also gave a timeline of completing all the preparations regarding the buses’ operation by the next 90 days.
The number of bus owners is around 2,000 and buses are currently running on at least 200 routes in and contiguous areas in Dhaka.
Earlier, with a fleet of 50 buses including 30 double-deckers of Bangladesh Road Transport Corporation (BRTC), a new bus service by Nagar Paribahan Bus started in the capital on December 26.
