Police in a raid recovered 22 pistols, 45 magazines and 136 bullets inside a house at Bottolahaat in Chapainawabganj municipality area on Monday afternoon.
The law enforcers picked up two persons for interrogation in this connection. They are Rokeya Begum, owner of the house and one Shakil Ahmed, police said.
TM Mojahidul Islam, Superintendent of Police (SP) of Chapainawabganj, said, “Acting on a tip-off,
police conducted a drive at a house in Bottolahaat area of the district town around 1:30pm and recovered the firearms with around 45 magazines.”
The police official claimed that the firearms smuggled from India were being stored in the house by a group of criminals.
“The criminals were engaged in planning to send the firearms in different parts of the country for subversive activities,” the SP said.
The house, however, has been given rent to a group of goat traders, he said.
We are investigating into the incident, the SP added.
