22 gold bars seized at HSIA: 3 held

Customs preventive team at Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport detained three domestic passengers and seized 22 gold bars weighing around 2.5 kg and 10 mobile phone sets from their possessions on Friday.
The trio was identified as Aflatun Akhter Mukti, Konika Hossain Jhunu and Saiful Islam.
Dhaka Customs House sources said, based on secret information, one of its preventive team started surveillance at different strategic points of the airport in the morning.
When the detained three passengers arrived at the airport by a Biman Bangladesh Airlines flight

from Muscat via Sylhet at around 11:30 am, the passengers were challenged by the customs preventive team at the arrival hall, said Sazzad Hossain, assistant commissioner (Customs) of the Dhaka Customs House adding that they boarded on the flight from Sylhet as domestic passengers.
Searching them, the preventive team recovered the gold bars and mobile sets, he said. Market price of the seized gold consignment and mobile sets are about Tk 1.33 crore, Sazzad added.
