Deal signed with UGC: 21 varsities to establish quality assurance machanism

A performance contract signing ceremony round-2 between UGC and Universities was held at UGC auditorium on Sunday. Twenty-one universities (8 public and 13 private) signed the agreement with UGC for establishing quality assurance machanism in their universities. Estimated sub-project expenditure has been fixed at Tk. 42 crore for the second round.
The universities which signed the agreement included- Hajee Mohammad Danesh Science and Technology University, Patuakhali Science and Technology University, Sher-e-Bangla Agricultural University, Chittagong University of Engineering and Technology, Khulna University of Engineering and Technology, Dhaka University of Engineering and Technology, Sylhet Agricultural University, Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujib Medical University, Independent University of Bangladesh, International University of Business Agriculture and Technology, Asian University of Bangladesh, Gono Bishwabidyalay, Dhaka International University, South East University, Daffodil International University, Northern University Bangladesh, Eastern University, Uttara University, United International University, University of Asia and Pacific and BRAC University.
Education Secretary Md. Nazrul Islam Khan attended the function as the Chief Guest. UGC Chairman Prof Abdul Mannan chaired the function. Dr Mokhlesur Rahman, Senior Operations Officer, World Bank was the special guest. Dr Gauranga Chandra Mohanta, Project Director of Higher Education Quality Enhancement Project (HEQEP) delivered the welcome address and Prof Dr Mesbahuddin Ahmed gave the vote of thanks on the occasion. UGC Secretary Dr Md. Khaled signed the agreement on behalf of UGC.
Education Secretary said that higher education is highly needed for entering into super knowledge society and for this, quality must be enhanced, ensured and sustained. He also said that there should be class one and dynamic website at university level. The chief guest stressed the need for producing innovators, researchers and entrepreneurs to maintain quality education at tertiary level. He also laid emphasis on establishing knowledge incubator at university level.
UGC Chairman, in his presidential speech observed that huge expansion of higher education has taken place in the country. Now the main challenge is to maintain quality education at tertiary level.
UGC Members- Prof Dr Mohammad Mohabbat Khan, Prof Dr Md. Akhtar Hossain, Prof Dr Mohammad Yousuf Ali Mollah and Prof Dr Dil Afroza Begum, Vice-Chancellors of public and private universities, Directors and Additional Directors of Institutional Quality Assurance Cell and Officials from UGC, World Bank and HEQEP were present on the occasion.
