At least 21workers, including six members of a family from Kishoreganj, are reported missing in the horrific fire at a juice factory in Narayanganj’s Rupganj. Their relatives are now screaming for getting no information.
It is learned that Nazmul, an SSC candidate from Shimul Kalia South Kaliakanda village in Kishoreganj Sadar Upazila, was killed in the fire. Taslima, Rabia and Mahmuda of Gauripur village of Katiadi upazila, Jahanara, Sahela, Rehena, Hakima and Ahad of Kadamtali and Mathurapara villages of Karimganj upazila are missing. Among them, six members of a family from Kadamtali village of Karimganj upazila are missing. According to the family members of the missing persons, the administration has summoned their relatives to Dhaka for DNA test.
Nazmul’s mother Bukvata is repeatedly breaking down in tears. She said that her son is going to attend SSC exam from a local high school this year. But since his father was a day laborer, there was always a financial shortage in the family. Nazmul went to work for the company due to family poverty as the school was closed due to Corona situation.
An elderly person said his member lost six members. Salim Uddin said in a tearful voice, ‘Six members of the family including my son’s wife, grandson, daughter’s grandson are not found. I don’t know where they are, alive or dead. ‘
Former chairman of the union council Jalal Uddin said those who were missing in the area had migrated to Rupganj as they could not find work locally due to corona. Most of them lived in poverty. Eid is ahead, so they all went to work there to give happiness and joy to the family members.
It is learned that the fire started on Thursday afternoon on the ground floor of Hashem Food & Beverage Factory in Rupganj industrial area of Narayanganj.
Deputy Commissioner ( DC), Kishoreganj Mohamad Shamim Alam told the New Nation that the incident was very difficult and sad.
All inquiries are being made about the dead and missing.
