A mobile court here sentenced 21 fishermen to one month imprisonment each for netting the fish in the Meghna river of the district defying a ban.
A mobile court led by Executive Magistrate and Bhola Sadar Upazila Nirbahi Officer (UNO) Tofail Ahmed last night passed the order under the Protection and Conservation of Fish Act, 1950.
The court also fined Taka 1,000 for four fishermen, TK 3,000 for one, TK 5,000 for another in default more one month jail.
Earlier, Bhola Upazila Administration and Bangladesh Coast Guard, in a joint drive, detained them and seized 40,000 metre current net and four fishing boat from them.
The government has imposed a ban on hilsa fishing from September 25 to October 9 to protect the fish during the breeding time.
