Detective Branch (DB) of Dhaka Metropolitan Police strengthened its drive against doper gangs, well known as
‘Malam Party or Ogyan Party’, in the capital ahead of Ramadan as the detectives arrested 21 gangsters from different parts of the city in the last 15 hours till 8am on Thursday.
A mobile court sentenced the dopers to different jail terms ranging from six months to two years. Sources at the DMP headquarters said a special DB team conducted a drive in front of Mahanagar Filling Station on Narayanganj-Jatrabari road in Jatrabari around 8pm on Wednesday and arrested six dopers- Al Amin Sarder, Md Niyon Khan, Touhidul Islam Sohel, Abdus Samad alias Salman, Ali Hossain Bhuiyan and Md Uzzal.
The detectives also recovered 120 sedative tablets of Lorazepam brand from their possession. Another DB team conducted drives on the Dhaka University campus, and in Shahbagh and High Court areas from 5:30 pm and arrested nine members of a doper gang. They are Jumman, Anis, Mainuddin, Shahidul, Ramzan, Md Ali, Wajib, Sumon and Tusar.
Sedatives, blades and other tools used for making people unconscious were recovered from their possession. During their drive, the detectives arrested Md Delwar Hossain Babu, Md Masud alias Langra Masud, Md Amir Hossain, Md Sukkur, Ali Khokon and Md Aktar Hossain from Shahbagh area at about 7:30 pm. Five Dormicum, six Milam and five Ativan tablets were also seized from them. Later, executive magistrate Anisur Rahman sentenced 12 of the arrestees to two years’ imprisonment while six to one year’s and three to six months’ jail.
