Mass hearing: 207 record deposition

A total of 207 people gave their deposition before the probe body on Narayanganj abductions and killings of seven people including Ward Councillor Nazrul Islam on Saturday.
The seven-member probe body formed in line with a High Court order started recording depositions of the witnesses at the Siddhirganj Power Station Rest House at around 10:00am and continued up to 4pm.
Earlier in the morning, several hundred people throng in front of the Rest House to give their deposition on the third day of public hearing. A total of 310 people have registered their names for giving the deposition but the probe body could recorded deposition of 207 people, sources in the probe body said.
Sources said, those who gave their deposition were mostly neighbours and relatives of the victims. Besides, some people who saw how the victims were picked up from the road also gave their deposition, sources said.
 Meanwhile, the probe body will record depositions of the civil society members from 3:00pm on Monday.
Earlier, it arranged two mass hearings at Narayanganj Circuit House on May 12 and 15. Before the mass hearings, the committee headed by Md Shahjahan Ali Mollah, additional secretary of the Public Administration Ministry, recorded statements of the family members and relatives of the seven victims on May 10.
On April 27, seven people — Nazrul Islam and his four associates and senior lawyer Chandan Sarker and his driver — were kidnapped separately, but around the same time from the Dhaka-Narayanganj link road.
Six bodies were found floating in the Shitalakkhya river three days later and another the next day. The other victims are Swapan, Tajul Islam, Liton, Jahangir and Ibrahim.
