The approval to continue academic activities of about 204 colleges may be canceled due to zero students at Higher Secondary level and for no pass in different public examinations.
The Education Ministry is preparing show-cause notices for sending to the respective colleges asking to explain as to why their approval will not be cancelled, the ministry sources said.
Of the 204 colleges, no student was admitted into 184 colleges at Higher Secondary level and the students did not pass in the HSC examination in 20 colleges this year.
In Dhaka Board, no student was admitted in 95 colleges and pass rate was zero in three colleges this year.
In Jessore Board, five colleges did not get any student for admission and no student passed in HSC examination from one of them.
In Rajshahi, the number of students at Higher Secondary level in 42 colleges and the pass rate of HSC examination-2016 was zero.
In Chittagong Board, the number of zero admission institutions is four, in Barisal 14 colleges and in Dinajpur 24 institutions. No student passed in the HSC examination from eight colleges under Dinajpur Board.
Any school management committee can get approval to run the academic activities showing necessary papers. But many of the school authorities managed the approval certificates by underhand dealings with the concern officials.
Chairman of Dhaka Education Board and Convener of Inter-education Board Coordination Committee Professor Md Mahbubur Rahman told The New Nation that some schools were established to do business in the name of education. They have failed in the field of education.
“After observing that the schools are doing business, we have decided to close these institutions permanently,” Professor Mahbub said.
