Shahriar Alam said Bangladesh remained vocal in the regional and global forums on all issues of importance, including key global issues like Jerusalem one.
He said Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina’s acceptance at the global stage as ‘Statesman’ witnessed uplift in the year 2017. “Everybody wants to see her at the center stage in terms of issues of gender equality, security, girls’ education and peacekeeping mission.”
The state minister said the achievements it bagged in the year 2017 took Bangladesh to newer heights.
He, however, said there are some challenges, including capacity building. “We are looking into it, too.”
Responding to a question on Rohingya issue, he said Bangladesh remains bilaterally engaged with Myanmar apart from its deep engagement internationally.
“Joint Working Group (JWG) has already been formed. We hope the first meeting of the JWG will be held some time in January,” he said. The state minister said they are on track in terms of timeframe mentioned in the bilateral document signed between Bangladesh and Myanmar on November 23.
“We are upbeat. We are confident and we are hopeful. We are bilaterally engaged,” he said describing the international supports that Bangladesh gained on the issue.
