Citi Bangladesh with the support of the philanthropic arm of Citi Foundation launched on Wednesday the Citi Microentrepreneurship Awards (CMA) program for the 12th consecutive time.
The program, as part of Citi’s ongoing commitment to the field of microfinance, seeks to highlight the achievements of some of the most innovative microentrepreneurs in Bangladesh.
This year, the Citi Foundation is committing $3,000,000 to the Citi Microentrepreneurship Awards program, which will take place in 30 countries including Bangladesh, said a press release. Prof of Department of Economics, Dhaka University Dr Wahiduddin Mahmud, Citi Country Officer for Bangladesh Rashed Maqsood, Senior Deputy President M Abdul Aziz and Director General, NGO Affairs Bureau Ashadul Islam,among others, were present at the launching ceremony. In Bangladesh, participating microentrepreneurs will present their businesses to microfinance experts and leaders from the public, private and academic sectors.
The competition and judging process will continue through February 2017 when the winners will be announced at the awards ceremony in Dhaka.
The grant of approximately Tk 7800000 from the Citi Foundation will be used towards implementation of the awards program as well as the winners’ prize money.
Channel i and The Daily Star have joined this program as partners in progress. PKSF and Microcredit Regulatory Authority (MRA) will continue providing technical and moral support to organize the CMA this year.
