Teachers, intellectuals and freedom fighters have termed 2015 the year of big achievements and joy for freedom fighters.
Talking to BSS, Professor Emeritus Dr. Anisuzzaman said the trial and punishment of war criminals in 2015 is the biggest achievement for the freedom fighters.
Ghatak Dalal Nirmul Committee acting President Shahriar Kabir said the year 2015 brought delight for the freedom fighters and the children of martyrs through the execution of BNP Standing Committee Member Salahuddin Quader Chowdhury and Jamaat-e-Islami Secretary General Ali Ahsan Mohammad Mujahid on the charges of crimes against humanity committed in 1971.
“Bangladesh has set an example in the world through the trial and hanging of these two war criminals,” he said, adding that Bangladesh has proved that it can hold world standard trials.
Shahriar Kabir thinks the government’s biggest success in 2015 is containing countrywide violence and terrorist activities by the anti-liberation forces at the beginning of the year.
He also appreciated various initiatives taken by the government for welfare of the freedom fighters in the outgoing year.
Bangladesh Shishu Academy Chairman and eminent litterateur Selina Hossain said execution of two war criminals in 2015 ended the nation’s long wait.
“It is a matter of profound delight now,” she added.
Liberation War hero and Crack Platoon member Habibul Alam Birpratik said people’s confidence in government increased 10 times through the execution of Salahuddin Quader Chowdhury and Ali Ahsan Mohammad Mujahid.
Jatiya Muktijoddha Council Executive Member Maj (Retired) Wakar said the government increased the amount of allowance for a freedom fighter to Taka 10,000 this year.
The government has also recognized the women repressed by Pakistani occupation forces as freedom fighters and enhanced different facilities for freedom fighters and their wards in 2015, he added.
Talking to BSS, the eminent persons called for upholding these achievements of the freedom fighters and complete other incomplete tasks.
Liberation War Sector Commander Maj Gen (Retd) KM Shafiullah Biruttam called upon the youth to be united to uphold the Liberation War spirit, history and heritage.
Shahriar Kabir demanded trial of Jamaat-e-Islami and the war criminals in Pakistan in the new year.
He also demanded trial of those who distort history.
