At least 201 cobras, mostly babies, have been killed in Rajshahi and Satkhira districts.
In Rajshahi, some 125 cobras were killed after they were found in the kitchen of a mud house in Tanore municipality on Thursday night.
House owner Akkas Ali, a local farmer of Bhadrakhana village, said his wife Hasna Bibi first spotted three snakes in the kitchen while cooking in the evening.
Akkas and his sons killed them and soon they discovered dozens more started coming out of mouse holes.
Later, neighbours also joined them and killed a total of 125 snakes.
The snakes were about one foot in length, Akkas said, adding that they also found 13 snake eggs.
UNB from Satkhira adds: In Satkhira, at least 76 cobras were killed in two houses in Sadar and Ashashuni upazilas.
Locals said nearly 56 cobras and 50 eggs were found at the house of M Sattar Khandaker at Baluigachcha village in Sadar upazila early Thursday.
Sattar’s mother spotted a cobra moving on her hand around 12 am and later the family members beat it to death.
Sattar’s son Ismail found another snake on the floor of his room in the morning and killed it instantly.
