20,000 hects of land brought under wheat cultivation in Panchagarh

The department of Agriculture Extension (DAE) is expecting to achieve a bumper wheat production in the district during the current season.
A total of twenty thousand hectares of lands have been brought under wheat cultivation this season in the district with an output target of 70, 000 metric tons of wheat.
Last year wheat cultivation target was five thousand of land,DAE sources said. Of them 7,000 hectares of land have been cultivation Prodip variety, 4,000 hectares of land under Bijoy , 2,500 hectares of land under Sotapdi and 6,500 hectares of land under Bari- 1,2,3 variety.
Deputy director of DAE Md, Abu Hanif told BSS wheat cultivation has increased this year than last year because less wheat cultivation is less expensive.
Farmers Abdul Majid, Subash Chandra of village Sabuspara under Debiganj Upazila of the district said that at least ten mds of wheat can be harvested from one bigha of land. Each mnd of wheat is sold at minimum Taka 800 to 1200.
