The situation is becoming tense among the 20 thousand gas connection seeking consumers of Karnaphuli Gas Distribution Company Ltd ( KGDCL) following the non-connection of gas to these domestic consumer despite deposit of connection fee and security money more than one year.The agitated gas aspirants repeatedly contacting the KGDCL office and the respective contractors in phases but becoming disappointed.
Meanwhile a number of contractors associations and gas aspirants formed humanchain infront of KGDCL office in city demanding immediate connection of gas on Wednesday afternoon.
The speakers in the human chain told that as per gas marketing policy , gas connection should be given within 18 working days after depositing of connection fee and security money. But the aspirants deposited the fees and security one year ago.
About 20 thousand new gas aspirants are waiting for gas connection aimed at hiring out their newly constructed building .
On the other hand the local gas contractors are being harassed locally by the gas aspirants regularly, different eye witnesses sources said.
Among others President of Gas, Power,Water Consumers Welfare Parishad Nesar Ahmed , senior vice president of Chittagong Gas Consumers Welfare Society Jafar Ahmed, Orgnising Secretary Abul Bashar, General Secretary Alamgir Noor, KGDCL Contractors Welfare Association Secretary AKM Aliullah spoke in the human chain.
The human chain given ultimatum for 7 days for gas connections otherwise tougher movement will be launched, it warned.
Besides, Convenor of the Welfare Parishad Nesar Ahmed sent a letter in connection to the state minister for Power on Tuesday last , the human chain was told.
