2,000 women become self-reliant in Narsingdi

More than 2,000 distressed women in four upazilas of the district have become self-reliant economically by receiving training on various income-generating programmes and loans from Women Affairs Department.
The department under its women assistance programme from 1998 (since the programme began in the district) provided training to 140 helpless women every year to make them self-reliant.
The training on sewing, block-boutique, candle making, bakery, beautician and mobile servicing provided by the department in the four training centres at Sadar, Polash, Monohardi and Belabo upazilas.
The department is also providing soft loan to the trained women to make them self-reliant.
During the last 15 years, over 2,000 helpless women overcome their poverty after receiving training and loan from the department, official sources said.
