Some 2,000 government officials have received training from reputed international organisations on governance, project management and cyber security issues.
Official sources said institutions like the National University of Singapore and US-based ESI in collaboration with Stanford University and George Washington University provided the training to the officials.
They said a list of another 500 government officials have been prepared to send them abroad in phases to receive the training, being provided under a World Bank-financed Leveraging ICT for Growth, Employment and Governance (LICT) Project of ICT Division. “The government wants to fill the skill gap of its officials to deal with e-governance and project management issues as well as cyber security problems that have emerged as major concern not only for Bangladesh but also elsewhere in the world,” said ICT Secretary Shyam Sunder Sikder. He said the government officials who have already received training from the NSU and ESI will contribute towards improving efficiency in running e-governance and project management and address cyber security issues. Sikder said the government in line with ‘Digital Bangladesh Vision’ has digitised many of its services, information and data to reach hassle-free services to the doorsteps of people.
“It has now become inevitable to protect IT services, information and data as cybercrimes pose a serious threat to ensure uninterrupted services,” he said. Director of National Data Centre of Bangladesh Computer Council (BCC) Tarique M Barkatullah said the training of the government officials is being held under LICT project to increase public sector efficiency to protect of their own IT system.
“We’re putting emphasis on providing quality training and that’s why the government officials are receiving training and certificates from reputed international institutions like NSU and Stanford University,” he said.
Barkatullah who is also the Deputy Project Director of LICT Project said the training will reduce the risks in the use of IT by the officials due to availability of shared technology infrastructure for their system and services.
